Did The Far Out Just Drop the Hottest EP of the Year? Omg, YES!

Ever since The Far Out released their debut single “Good Thing,” these guys immediately won me over. You can call it first love or a first encounter, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that today, The Far Out has finally released their debut EP, and this event is significant not only for the music world and the band itself but also for all jazz fans, including me.

The self-titled EP is a bright and radiant representative of contemporary jazz music that fully embodies the finest traditions of this genre. When listening to the album, it’s like immersing yourself in a stream of sunshine, penetrating through the musical notes. It simply sparkles with joy and positivity, and Ellie Dolant and Olivia Lowe’s vocals are soft and free, as if sounds effortlessly float through the air. Listening to this EP, you can feel that the musicians have seemingly captured the sun and subtly woven it into their melodies, creating music that brings joy and warmth to every listener. When I first heard this music, it literally exceeded my expectations. It’s like a bright sunny day when you just can’t resist running out into the street and dancing under its rays. Honestly, I’ve been eagerly awaiting their full record for a long time, so I’m excited and pleased to share my emotions from listening to their debut release.

The first track, “Long Time Coming,” is like a spark that ignites from the very first notes, and it’s impossible not to start dancing to it. It’s the perfect opening track. “Long Time Coming” is a true musical adventure on the green hills of jazz country, where every note flows rhythmically, as if in the eternal passage of time. Ellie Dolan’s voice penetrates deep into the soul, evoking sensual vibrations and taking you straight to the dance floor. It feels like this track is akin to the long-awaited breeze after a hot day. It’s that moment when you realize that everything you’ve dreamed of is finally becoming a reality.

The song “Good Thing” is perhaps the catchiest track on the EP, yet it sounds like an already established classic. The trumpets, saxophone, guitar solo, and, of course, Olivia Lowe’s incredibly smooth and sensual vocals make this track my favorite. This track blends old-school romance with a modern sound, creating a timeless journey where the past and the present merge into a wonderful harmony. The joyful moments, created by the interplay of brass instruments and vibrant guitar solos, give the song a special charm and a positive vibe. They remind us that all our relationships are part of the bigger journey we undertake in life. And while we may sometimes say goodbye to something good, it opens up new opportunities for something even better.

LIFE OF THE PARTY

Right in the EP’s heart, we come across “Another Thing,” where The Far Out unmistakably reaffirm their commitment to genuine jazz, a music that courses through the musicians’ very souls. It’s as though the musicians share a telepathic connection, evident in how the instruments channel their profound emotions. Olivia’s and Ellie’s delivery gains strength and depth, infusing the jazz sound with passion and vigor, and yet, there’s a very pleasant, spine-tingling melancholy in the track, especially in the chorus. The saxophone solo in the song is nothing short of mesmerizing. It weaves through the melody with a soulful and expressive tone, adding an extra layer of emotion to the music in every note. It’s nothing short of astonishing!

The EP concludes with “Life of the Party,” and the title truly reflects the essence of this track. The Far Out shuffle the cards, swap the pieces, bringing Henry Zagarella’s vocals to the forefront. Saxophone solos are replaced by synthesizer keys, and in this track, the band adds a touch of light funk, a vibrant rhythm, and the lyrics support the carefree mood of the song. In my view, it’s an amazing way to wrap up the EP because it’s filled with the musicians’ genuine passion, the brightness of the sound, and incredible hooks.

My journey with The Far Out began with their single “Good Thing,” a musical spark that ignited my love for their unique sound.
